A fixed 48-minute muhurta, counted back from the calculated sunrise for each city.
The convention used here
A muhurta is 48 minutes, a thirtieth of a full day. Brahma Muhurta is taken here as the second-to-last muhurta of the night: it starts 96 minutes before sunrise and ends 48 minutes before it. With a 6:00 AM sunrise, that is 4:24 to 5:12 AM.
Some panchangs divide each night into 15 muhurtas of unequal length, which makes the window longer in winter and shorter in summer. The difference is a few minutes in most of India.
Why it moves through the year
The window follows sunrise, so it is earlier in June and later in January. India keeps one time zone, so it is also much earlier on the clock in the north-east than in Gujarat on the same morning.
